Why the name Brook Besor ?
|
In I Samuel chapter 30, David has just gone through some pretty junky times. He has
made some unwise decisions and as such things aren't going well. Chapter 30 starts as
David and his troops are rejected from battle for he had sold out to the enemy and when
times got tough, even the enemy didn't want him. They return home to find their place
torn up and wives and children taken.
His followers go through wanting to stone him and other nasty things leading up to this.
David again decides to return to God and ask for wisdom. God tells him to go after their
loved ones. They (Daivd and his men) decide to go and get their families and belongings
back.
Along the way, about 1/3 of them are very tired and just can’t continue. They stay at this
really neat sounding place (brook besor). The remaining 2/3 of the men went with David
into battle. There are some miraculous God things, but the bottom line is David and the
rest of his men won. They got their families and possessions and came back to the brook.
Some of the people didn’t want to share things with the ‘lazy folks’ that stayed behind
and didn’t even fight. Why should we share’ type thing. However, we learn that God
doesn't see it as too lazy. He sees it as there are sometimes when you need to push
ahead, even when you're uncomfortable, but there is also a time that you are just to
weary to continue. There is no condemnation for those who were just too weary to
continue and that they shared in the victory.
Sometimes we just can't go anymore. Work is a pain, class is too hard, relationships turn
sour - life happens. There are times when we need to persevere and times when we need
to rest.
This class of College and Young Professionals is a place of rest and excitement without
condemnation. Whether you're going strong, or need something strong to hold to -
you're welcome and encouraged to join this group of Christ's followers as together we'll
face what life brings our way - knowing that God loves us and wants nothing for us but
the best in the long run.
